This is the reason why the business was formed and is the main application currently in production. The finished application will be distributed on, and will run from, a CD-ROM using video, sound, text, photographs, drawings and animations to present an interpretation of the Laws of Cricket as seen from the viewpoint of umpires and scorers. The information will be presented in a number of sections and at a number of levels to appeal to cricket lovers of all types.
The application has been fully updated for the 2000 Code of Law which took effect from 1 October 2000 and is currently being modified for the changes taking effect from 1 September 2003.
The application is a full guide to the Laws of Cricket from the point of view of an official. It is not a simulation of the game of cricket nor is it a collection of statistics or historical facts. Whilst primarily intended as a reference for those who already, or intend to, umpire or score it is organised in a way that will allow anyone with an interest in the game to access information at the level that best suits their needs. The main menu gives access to five sections; three of these - Umpire Duties, Scorer Duties, and Laws - are sub divided into sections starting with general information and ending up with interactive questions. The other two sections are a comprehensive index allowing quick access to any of the information and a section bringing together the information in a series of modules, each dealing with one particular aspect of the law.
The sections are:
UMPIRE DUTIES - full details of all the duties that an Umpire must undertake following appointment to a match:
SCORER DUTIES - full details of all the duties that a Scorer must undertake following appointment to a match:
LAWS - There are forty-two laws and each are dealt with in their own section. The Laws were revised during 1999/2000 with the new code coming into operation on 1 October 2000. Revisions to some laws were agreed in May 2003 to take effect from September 2003. The application will include full details of the revisions. The MCC hold the copyright to the Laws and the text is already available in several publications. It is not intended, therefore, to include the full text of the Laws.
MODULES - the laws are split into sections, each dealing with one aspect of the law. For example everything relating to the ball is brought together in one module and in another everything relating to the pitch.
INDEX - different indexes allow instant access to information by page title, by word search or by returning to pages already visited.
